Grape cultivation     We still place an emphasis on classical grape types such as Riesling, Silvaner or the Pinot varieties, though these are complemented by internationally-established strains such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or red Merlot. When choosing which varieties to plant, and where, we base our decisions on quality considerations and the selection of the ideal location. Nevertheless, we bear in mind that change has been a way of life in Rheinhessen over many centuries. Individual tastes can be satisfied only by offering a wide range of subtly nuanced flavours and a variety of quality levels: our selection extends from simple Q.b.A types, via semi-dry and high-grade wines, right through to dessert wines including the "Trockenbeerenauslese" (noble rot) or the rare "Eiswein" (frosted wine) types.
